Independence Day Amid Avocados

I spent the holiday weekend in Fallbrook (the avocado capital of the world [and, per Wikipedia, home of Tony Hawk - who knew?]).  Missy and I went to visit our friend Mel and her family.

The road trip's highlights:
  • running into an old Jamba colleague at In-N-Out Burger near Magic Mountain
  • playing iPod "name that tune"
  • driving through Claremont - home of my alma mater
  • first visit to Chick-Fil-A (but only to use the bathroom)
  • meeting Mel's three month old daughter Giovanna
  • lounging on the beach in Oceanside
  • sipping lots and lots of wine :)
The last stretch of freeway before reaching Fallbrook is called "Avocado Highway" - how totally dreamy is that?!  My inner Homer Simpson (don't we all have one?) envisions snacking my way through roads made of guacamole and trees of avocado slices on the Avocado Highway (but sadly it's just regular freeway and stuff...).

You went to Chick-Fil-A without sampling the waffle fries?!? This is going to take some time to digest.
