Salad Soup Sucks

So - you know how when all of a sudden everyone you know starts talking about some restaurant and how great it is and how you're a total power tard because you've never been there?

It happened to me the other day with LP3.  No, not Loose Poop 3 or Li'l People 3.  It's La Pinata 3.

Suddenly everyone's all up in my grill about LP3:  "OMG - LP3!", "I can't get enough LP3!", "I would lick Barbra Streisand's alien fingers just to get a taste of that sweet, sweet LP3!".

Clearly I had to check this place out...

So - my pal Elsie, her baby Dean and I went there for lunch today.  Elsie had an enchilada.  Dean had a bottle of formula.  I had a taco salad.  Not sure what went wrong but it was the soupiest, sorriest salad since sassy Sally sold seashells by the seashore (oof - sorry, alliteration got the best of me).  Point being - the taco salad was lame.  The chips were good and the margarita was even better (so the visit wasn't a complete bust).  But is LP3 all that the people say it is?  I don't think so.

Today's lesson:  in the words of Public Enema (that was a typo but I'm leaving it) - don't believe the hype...

Welcome back, old friend

Oh, Dog - how I've missed you.  Back to back episodes of "Dog The Bounty Hunter" and a juice pop.  Does it get any better than this?  No, I think not.

Swingtown. Watch it. It's good.

Yes, Swingtown. Who knew? My good pal John told me I'd like it and it seems he knows my tastes quite well (way to go, Juan Jose!).

What's not to love:

  • Grant Show (yes, of Melrose Place!)
  • Grant Show's tasty moustache (meow meow!)
  • Grant Show's wife's hair (it'll be my next 'do)
  • Soft rock hits of the 70s (you know that's my kryptonite!)
  • Oh, yeah - and swinging
Now how can I get my hands on a can of Tab and a quaalude?

My new favorite train wreck

I wasn't into them the first time around but now I can't get enough. Please don't go NKOTB - you would ruin my whole world...

I was carded!

I was carded yesterday while buying beer @ Piedmont Grocery (exactly two months before my 35th birthday).  Thanks, grocery check-out lady - you made my day :)

First Hello Kitty and now this?

The Japanese are kicking our asses...

My favorite part is Bruce Springsteen - this guy really captured his "flair", no? Is it just me or does it seem like he *really* needs to #2?

When did dancing become the new black?

Doesn't it seem like suddenly everybody's dancing?  While watching television yesterday afternoon I saw ads for three (!) different dance shows on television (forgive me if I get the names wrong - it's hard to remember details when you are sure you've just witnessed signs of the Apocalypse):

  1. Dance Master (hosted by Joey "Whoa!" Lawrence)
  2. Randy Jackson's Best Dance Troupe (wish it were Tito's gig - he's my second favorite Jackson)
  3. So You Think You're a Dancer?
What does this all mean?  Should I trade in my guitar for a piece of cardboard?  Should I dust off my "robot" and get myself on TV?  Could this be my ticket to fame and fortune?  What do you guys think?

These are a few of my favorite things...

I love it when one of my cats uses the other's rump as a pillow :)

Tuesday's adventures

Loraine and I had lunch yesterday at Genova - yes!  Those who grew up in the East Bay are surely familiar with their sandwiches (and their Walnut Creek locations).  If you haven't been you need to run (not walk) to the nearest Genova.  I recommend swiss cheese with roast turkey  - that's what the cool kids eat :)

After lunch we went to visit Leslie and baby Dean.  Dean seemed to love the onesie I brought him.  After all - it's blue, has a cartoon deer (reminiscent of Sanrio's Deery Lou) with "Jamaica" below the deer.  What's not to like (especially when you're four months old)?

Then we were off to the Emeryville mall for a visit to Sephora.  I walked out with eye makeup remover, mascara and moisturizer (oh - and a free sample of foundation which I don't know how to use).  I have a feeling these new products will change my life.  In fact - I'm positive they will.  Watch out!

What I learned on my Jamaican vacation...

Just returned from a week @ Riu Ocho Rios in Jamaica.  This is what I learned:
  1. I heart rum (OK - I already knew this...)
  2. I cannot pass up an opportunity to eat mango
  3. New favorite rum drink:  caipirissima
  4. Floating in water while staring out to sea brings clarity of thought
  5. Underwater handstand contests can get very competitive
  6. Lounge chair, iPod and rum drink = happiness trifecta
  7. New favorite sunscreen:  Neutrogena UltraSheer Body Mist
  8. Laziness heals
  9. Tanning is still alive and well in some circles (come on, people - even if you aren't afflicted by skin cancer who wants sun damage and premature wrinkles?)
  10. The more I am told to relax (e.g. "You're in Jamaica!  Relax!  No problem!) the more uptight I get
  11. It is better to nap in the afternoon than drink a cup of coffee
  12. There's never a bad time to do the dance routine from Thriller
  13. Johnny Cash had a home outside of Montego Bay
  14. It's possible to tire of sloth-filled days
  15. I need prescription sunglasses
